Mmmmmh M’Vila

9 05 2012

According to T’internet and the tabloids Arsenal have agreed a club record fee in excess of £16 million for very highly rated French international Yann M’vila.

Anyone who has stuck their head out from under a rock in recent seasons will have heard the rumours that we were interested in/were going to sign/were trying to tempt with hookers the 21 year old enforcer who currently plys his trade in ligue 1 with Rennes.

This time though things seem a bit more promising than the usual scuttlebutt. The normally reliable French football specialist Julien Laurens, has claimed both on Twitter and Le Parisien that M’Vila has agreed a four year deal to bring him to the Emirates.

Normally I try not to get excited about possible signings as year in year out we see ourselves linked with everyone and their dog. But this is one signing that I think would show a real statement of intent from the club.

Not only is M’Vila a very “Wengeresque” signing but he would offer genuine competition for Alex Song and coupled with the early capture of Lukas Podolski would show a real statement of intent which may well help swing the decisions of RVP and Walcott when it comes to signing on the dotted line.

Fingers crossed that some serious lessons have been learnt from last Summer’s business dealings and that this Summer will have less of a resemblance to a re-run of Supermarket Sweep.

Chu Young park completes Arsenal move

30 08 2011

Today sees the official arrival of South Korea captain, Chu Young Park, from Monaco.

If rumour is to be believed the 26 year old striker walked out of a medical with Ligue 1 champions Lille in order to board a flight to London and sign for the Gunners on a 4 year contract.

There is some confusion floating around as to whether or not he will be eligible during the entire duration of his stay at the Emirates as he may possibly have to serve 2 years national service. It is key to point out however that certain prolific South Korean sportsmen have been given exemptions in recent years.

In an announcement earlier on today Park had these words to say regarding his move ‎”In my opinion this is a great club, now I have to show what I can do on the pitch. I will do my best, I will never give up, I will show heart, I will give everything and I hope [the fans] will support me.”

Park will wear the currently vacant number 9 jersey and will go by his preferred name of Ju Young Park.

Nasri joins City

23 08 2011

$amir Na$ri

In yet another shock transfer that no-one at all saw coming Arsenal winger, Samir Nasri, has agreed to join cash rich b*stards Man City.

Nasri is set to earn a shit ton of money and will join such other former Arsenal players as Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor in warming the bench at Eastlands.

Meanwhile Arsenal will receive a fee believed to be in the region of £25 million, not bad for a man with half a season of decent football to his name.

Following a number of departures this Summer it might be about time for the rest of the team to be reminded of Arsenal’s club motto

Victoria Concordia Crescit / Victory through Unity

Perhaps a little more focus on the team and a little less focus on their pockets might help deliver the trophies that we as fans and presumably they as players long for.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas joins Tractor Boys

26 07 2011

It’s not often I get to see transfers involving my two favourite teams =  Arsenal and of course the “Pride of East Anglia”, Ipswich Town… well today is one of those rare days.

The transfer in question is of course Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’ permanent move to the tractor boys for a figure somewhere in the region of £1.1 million.

JET came to prominence when he captained the Arsenal side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2009 but has subsequently struggled to find a place in Arsene Wenger’s plans and has had successive loan spells at Blackpool, Cardiff and Doncaster.

JET can play anywhere up top and has even deputised at left back before but seems to be at his best when employed in an attacking midfield role. There is no doubt in my mind that he is a very talented youngster and flashes of his brilliance have crept through on occasion however on seeing some of his appearances for Cardiff on loan he is also a player who can frustrate fans and doesn’t always look as if his heart is in it…perhaps that is why Wenger hasn’t given him the same chances shown to Jack Wilshere or Aaron Ramsey in recent seasons.

Whether Paul Jewell can get the best out of him remains to be seen but I think it is a decent bit of business for everyone involved, especially as it would seem that Arsenal have had a hefty sell on clause written into the deal…

Welcome Gervinho

11 07 2011

Well my beloved Arsenal are finally off the mark with a meaningful transfer and in usual Arsenal fashion it is the worst kept secret of the summer….

Gervinho

Headed goals anyone…
