Waiting

13 07 2012

They tell me you’re small,
Like a Lego man.

I don’t believe them.

You’re the elephant in the room,
As big as a house, at least in my head you are.

I’ve never met you or seen you from a far,
We’ve never chatted on the phone.
Ten weeks ago you didn’t even exist!

Who made you so important?

I’ve realised that I’m waiting for you,
Everything else is frozen on hold.
We are ALL waiting.

We don’t talk about much else now,
Overnight you’ve become the VIP, the main man, the guest of honour.

All the time it’s just questions, questions, questions
What will he look like?
What colour is her hair?

I haven’t got any answers,
Hell, we don’t even know your name!

But you are important
And I’m waiting
For you.

Hunt

6 07 2012

A flash of white catches the eye.
A ripple of movement passes through the scrub.

Rising, drawing, aiming in one fluid movement,
Head turning, eyes tracking,
Release!

Barely breathing, daring not to hope,
The World blurs. All that exists is the arrow,
So slow, as it bridges the gap between hunter and prey.

A tidal rush of emotion fills the void;
Pride, elation… relief,
We eat today.

Just a little something I wrote yesterday evening when I was trying to get a few more pages of my novel knocked. Guess I got a little distracted, again.
