Talking about my generation….

  3 DEAD

  9 STABBED

1 MISSING

There are plenty of events I can think of that might give rise to such headlines, war, rioting, civil disobedience etc etc

But never, even in my wildest dreams would it have occurred to me that I might have cause to be writing this about a concert.  Not I hasten to add a 7 day biker festival someplace in the middle of nowhere but a one-off concert in the Phoenix Park in Dublin.

Saturday night saw Snoop Dogg, Tinie Tempah,Calvin Harris and Swedish House Mafia take to the stage in what for around 50,000 fans should have been a fantastic night.

Instead 3 men in their teens and early twenties are now dead as a result of drug overdose. One of the men in his early 20s became ill and sought medical assistance inside the concert arena as early as 7pm.

There were 9 separate incidents of stabbing including one incident where a 28 year-old concert goer from the Isle of Mann was stabbed 5 times causing severe injuries to his head and chest including damage to his liver. His assault was unprovoked.

These attention grabbing incidents are to say nothing of the dozens of eye witness reports of people being bottled and beaten throughout the evening with fights, scuffles and in one case an 8 man brawl breaking out both in and outside of the venue.

Meanwhile Gardai are seeking information regarding 19 year-old Aoife Finan from Cobh who has been missing since the 11pm on the night of the concert.

Drug use was rampant and blatant, often taking place in full view of event staff, security and Garda alike. On the radio this evening one concert goer reported that as bouncers were handing out free glasses of water to crowds at the crush barrier they were openly being used to knock back pills.
Much like at any Irish event massive amounts of alcohol were consumed to excess and underage drinking was rife. This of course lead to people vomiting, urinating and even defecating in full public view without care or consequence.

According to a report in the The Evening Herald and numerous other first hand accounts the number of people openly engaged in sex acts was staggering, there are even several reports of people having full blown intercourse as a sort of sideshow to the main event.

What the fuck is wrong with people?!?!?!?

The majority of the crowd were aged from late teens to late twenties, this is the same demographic I fall into, I grew up and went to school with them. I am one of them.

Except I’m not.

I just can’t fathom it out, I really can’t. I go to concerts, I go down the pub with friends or to a nightclub, I drink, hell sometimes I get drunk .)

I’m not claiming to be an angel, I’m not. I am sure there are several people who crossed paths with me in my younger day when I was working as a bouncer who can well remember ending up on the wrong end of a well aimed right hook if they were acting the maggot.

There have always been lads who drank too much and got a bit out of hand or the two fellas who just can’t stand each other and go at it after a night out. There always will be.

But the sort of scenes witnessed at Phoenix Park the other night are just not right. In fact they are very, very wrong.
It makes a terrible statement about ‘my generation’, reinforces all sorts of negative stereotypes and raises an awful lot of questions:

What possesses people to act like this? Where were the police and what were they doing? Why the hell weren’t security searching people as they went in? – Somehow I feel that answers will be, as ever, sadly lacking.

I would love to say this is an isolated event, that things like this rarely happen. That would be a lie though wouldn’t it. You only have to look at the riots in the UK last year to see the sort of common criminality which on the face of things is endemic amongst young people today.

Maybe they are disenfranchised, maybe they are the product of poor schooling, bad parenting or are symptomatic of a culture which seems to revel in sex, violence and excess.

Whichever it is I can tell you one thing for free. I want nothing to do with any of it.

Bring on the Zombie apocalypse, at least we will know where we stand then.

Professor blames hot sauce for indecent activities.

17 01 2011

Alan in the Hangover states that counting cards isn’t illegal, merely frowned upon like masturbating on an airplane…

Well unfortunately for Floridian professor Rafael Escamilla this isn’t advice that should be taken seriously by anyone. The educator  has found himself in trouble with the law after exposing and pleasuring himself on a Skywest flight from Salt Lake City to Lewiston

Escamilla had lowered his lunch tray but was spotted massaging his member by his fellow  passenger a 17-year-old cheer leader who happened to be sharing the seat next to him. The traumatised young lady took herself off to the toilets and on leaving them found an empty seat elsewhere on the plane informing the woman next to her that Escamilla had “creeped her out”.

Upon landing she made the incident known to her father who contacted the relevant authorities who intercepted professor Escamilla and arrested him.

When interviewed by the cops Escamilla claimed that he had spilt Tabasco brand hot sauce on his penis earlier on that day and had been trying to “rub”and  “massage” away the burning sensation he also claimed that it “wasn’t hanging out” and that he had tried to disguise it with his tray.

Now whether there is any truth in the story or not I have a couple of issues; firstly how did he manage to get tabasco sauce down there? Was he eating nude?

Secondly; the prof claimed that he spilt the sauce on himself at breakfast that day, if that is the case how the hell was tabasco, pretty much the mildest sauce out there, still burning him up that much later on in the day.

Thirdly and most importantly how would anyone let alone an educator think that it would be appropriate to deal with this itching feeling whilst seated on an airplane, especially when the passenger alongside you is a teenage girl? Did it never occur to him to walk 50 feet or so to the toilet cubicle and deal with the issue there…. well the police asked this question as well and Escamilla informed them that he “didn’t feel that it would help.”

The officer who conducted the interview did note down that at no point during the conversation did Escamilla react in a way that would suggest he had an incredible itch on a particularly sensitive area of his person.

Now I don’t claim to an expert in the field of  genital injuries however I have eaten Bhut Jolokias and then gone to the bathroom having forgotten to wash my hands first… let me go on record as saying that hurt, in fact it hurt quite a lot. Even so that level of pain from a chilli over 200x hotter than tabasco sauce would not have made me masturbate on a plane in front of a child.

Whether or not he is a criminal remains to be seen but he is certainly an idiot.

Children raping children, stop the world I want to get off.

12 05 2010

I must admit to being fairly hard to shock these days, I’m not saying it’s a good thing in fact I wish it wasn’t the case, but somethings are so horrific and terrible that even someone as de-sensitised as I feels absolute physical revoltion on hearing of them.

I was looking through the home page of the BBC news when this particular headline came around on the cycle:

Girl, eight, ‘raped by two 10-year-old boys’ in London

What the fuck is wrong with the world that we live in.

The “alleged” attack took place  whilst the youngster was playing with her even younger sister and a group of friends near to her family home.

The two boys who were known to the girl took her to a nearby block of flats where they then raped her.

She was found with the boys by her mother after her younger sister returned home without her.

The two boys are both being tried at the Old Bailey with two counts of rape and two of attempted rape on a person under 13 years of age.

In order to better facilitate the needs of the defendants the judge is seating at a lower level where the clerk of the court would normally be seated and court is in session for a shorter amount of time each day.

Well excuse me for being inflammatory  but fuck the needs of the defendants. They in no way took into account the needs of the poor girl they brutalised.

If this is the world today you can keep it.
