RIP James Gandolfini

20 06 2013

I switched on the television in work this morning to hear the sad news that James Gandolfini of Tony Soprano fame had passed away at only 51 years of age whilst on holiday in Italy.

Whilst the official cause of death hasn’t been announced yet it is being suggested that the Soprano’s star suffered a heart attack.

Whilst Gandolfini will be best remembered for his iconic performances in the Sopranos, his film credits included Zero Dark Thirty and Killing Them Softly, and he appeared in the Broadway production God Of Carnage.

The three time Emmy award winning actor was in Italy for the 59th Taormina film festival.

A great actor, a great man and a great loss.

This WWI era advert for affordable, delicious Whale steaks in a can sure got my tastebuds tingling.

Or was that the feeling of 1000s of specialised nerve endings trying to expel themselves from my mouth?

Discworld reading order

11 06 2013

I was having a discussion with a colleague at work this morning about Terry Pratchett’s wonderful Discworld series.

He has only just stumbled upon Discworld and was wondering what order to read the books in.

I was busy drawing up a little flow chart when I realised that someone, somewhere on the internet had probably beaten me to it.

Lo and behold the good people at lspace.org have indeed created such a chart which is really very good.

Suffice to say I am very, very impressed!

Fake cigars

If any of my fellow cigar smokers out there on the internet are interested in/worried about or just down right pissed off at the trade in fake Cuban cigars online then you might want to have a look at this post over on my new blog: Tales from the Humidor.

Sanogo a go go

4 06 2013

Despite not being officially announced as of yet it is looking more or less in the bag that promising French striker Yaya Sanogo will be joining Arsenal during the Summer transfer window.

It has been widely reported that the Auxerre and French U21 player would be joining the Gunners on a free transfer in an attempt to take his career to the next level after a groin injury saw him sit out most of the 2012 season on the sidelines.

8 goals in 7 games for the Ligue 2 outift has seen comparisons drawn with a certain Thierry Henry…

According to comments made by Sanogo he had contract offers from a number of teams include Lille however a personal visit from Arsene Wenger convinced him that a move to the Emirates would be the right one to make.
